Clockwise Community Grant helps Coventry Muslim Scouts enjoy the great outdoors

Clockwise Credit Union has awarded a £250 Community Grant to 100th Coventry Muslim Scouts, helping the group replace essential camping equipment and continue giving young people the chance to enjoy outdoor activities.

Our Community Grant Scheme supports local groups that make a positive difference in the communities they serve. When members save or borrow with Clockwise, their money is invested back into the local community, helping organisations, charities and volunteer-led groups continue their important work.

100th Coventry Muslim Scouts works with young people from Coventry and Nuneaton, providing a welcoming space where children can build confidence, learn new skills and take part in activities centred around outdoor learning, community service and personal development. The group currently supports more than 150 young people through regular sessions, with many more on its waiting list.

The grant will go towards replacing camping equipment, including tents and a gazebo, which had become damaged after regular use and poor weather. Safe and suitable equipment is vital for the group, allowing young people to take part in camping, outdoor activities and wider Scouting events across the Coventry area.

Speaking about the difference the grant will make, the group said:

“This grant will allow us to replace essential equipment that was recently damaged, ensuring our young people can continue spending meaningful time outdoors. With the right tools back in place, they’ll be able to explore nature, learn vital life skills, take part fully in Scouting activities, and connect with other groups across the wider Scouting community. It will make a genuine difference to their confidence, their sense of belonging, and the opportunities available to them.”

Jo Staniforth, Community Development Officer at Clockwise Credit Union, visited the group to present the cheque and meet some of the young people who will benefit from the funding. Despite an early Sunday morning trip along the M69, Jo said the smiles and laughter from the group made it more than worthwhile!

The Community Grant Scheme is open to community groups based in Leicester, Leicestershire, Rutland, Nottinghamshire, Nottingham, Coventry or Warwickshire. Groups can apply for a grant of £250, although higher amounts may be considered in exceptional circumstances.

Grants can support a wide range of needs, such as small pieces of equipment, food banks, community schemes, youth clubs, Scouts and Guides groups, and projects supporting under-represented communities.
